White Castle Launches Autism Speaks Puzzle Piece Campaign

July 22, 2011

Continuing its commitment to Autism Speaks, White Castle will again participate in the Autism Speaks Puzzle Piece campaign. White Castle customers and employees can purchase a puzzle piece for $1, attach it to the castle wall and support the nation’s largest autism research and advocacy organization. Puzzle pieces are available July 24th through August 20th in all restaurants.

“In 2010, White Castle donated $500,000 to Autism Speaks from sales of the Original Slider candle and the puzzle piece campaign,” said Jamie Richardson, vice president of government and corporate communications.

Cravers purchased 384,190 puzzle pieces in 2010.

“We’re hoping that our customers and employees get the crave to support and give back to an organization White Castle is committed to helping,” Richardson said. “The goal is for Cravers to purchase more puzzle pieces this year so we can make a larger donation to Autism Speaks.”

In addition to purchasing the puzzle pieces in restaurants, customers will receive a certificate for a free Original Slider®.

According to the Autism Speaks website, autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders. It’s estimated that one in every 110 children is diagnosed with autism. An estimated 1.5 million people in the U.S. are affected by this biological disorder. Scientists have yet to determine a definite cause for autism.

White Castle is a family-owned business based in Columbus, Ohio that owns and operates more than 400 White Castle restaurants in 11 states. The company was founded in Wichita, Kansas in 1921 and is America’s first fast-food hamburger chain. All White Castle Sliders are made from 100% USDA approved beef or 100% white meat chicken. This year, the company celebrates its 90th birthday with special events and promotions occurring throughout the year.
