SUZANNE WRIGHT: That’s precisely the answer we’re trying to find. Autism has now risen to epidemic proportions. In the past 13 years the incidence has gone from one in 10,000 to one in 166, and one in 104 boys born develops autism. And the stigma attached to it is significant.
No one has been paying attention. It’s amazing that people in this country aren’t screaming about the epidemic of autism. So little is known because there’s no money going into it; autism has received three-tenths of one percent of the National Institutes of Health‘s total budget.

Bob Wright: There is no getting around the facts: autism has become an epidemic
Autism Speaks: Suzanne Wright on ABC’s “The View” Transcript | Circa January 18, 2006
WRIGHT: That’s right. Ten years ago it was one in 10,000. Autism is now a national epidemic. It’s one in 166 children.
Tune-in: Suzanne Wright on CNN’s Larry King Live | March 21, 2007
WRIGHT: I don’t explain that. I think it’s absolutely deplorable. I cannot believe in the day of the Autism epidemic. As somebody reported before, Polio was in the 50’s when we were growing up. It was 1 in 3,000 and was a national health crisis.
Everyone rallied around the fact that we needed to find a cause and a cure. Now, we have 1 in 10,000 — it was 13 years ago — 1 in 166 is three years ago. The CDC numbers are now 1 in 150, 1 in 94 boys will be diagnosed with Autism. This is truly a national and a global epidemic.
Autism Speaks Execs Visit Qatar | Circa April 2007
AUTISM strikes without any discrimination of ethnicity, class, geography, gender or race, said Autism Speaks’ founder, Suzanne Wright, yesterday during the Second Annual International Forum on Children with Special Needs in the Shafallah Center.
Also speaking on the occasion were Ad Council’s executive vice president and director of client services, Priscilla Natkins and Autism Speaks’s chief science officer, Andy Shih.
Referring to autism as ‘an urgent global health crisis,’ Wright said that this fast growing, serious developmental disorder, has become an epidemic which is found in one of every 166 children in the United States.

Here we were, me and my husband, the head of NBC Universal for over 20 years, and we knew nothing about this devastating disease that is gripping our nation. No one was talking about this epidemic.
More With Autism Epidemic
Autistic people have fought the inclusion of ABA in therapy for us since before Autism Speaks, and other non-Autistic-led autism organizations, started lobbying legislation to get it covered by insurances and Medicaid.
ABA is a myth originally sold to parents that it would keep their Autistic child out of an institution. Today, parents are told that with early intervention therapy their child will either be less Autistic or no longer Autistic by elementary school, and can be mainstreamed in typical education classes. ABA is very expensive to pay out of pocket. Essentially, Autism Speaks has justified the big price tag up front will offset the overall burden on resources for an Autistic’s lifetime. The recommendation for this therapy is 40 hours a week for children and toddlers.
The original study that showed the success rate of ABA to be at 50% has never been replicated. In fact, the study of ABA by United States Department of Defense was denounced as a failure. Not just once, but multiple times. Simply stated: ABA doesn’t work. In study after repeated study: ABA (conversion therapy) doesn’t work.
What more recent studies do show: Autistics who experienced ABA therapy are at high risk to develop PTSD and other lifelong trauma-related conditions. Historically, the autism organizations promoting ABA as a cure or solution have silenced Autistic advocates’ opposition. ABA is also known as gay conversion therapy.
The ‘cure’ for Autistics not born yet is the prevention of birth.
The ‘cure’ is a choice to terminate a pregnancy based on ‘autism risk.’ The cure is abortion. This is the same ‘cure’ society has for Down Syndrome.
This is eugenics 2021. Instead of killing Autistics and disabled children in gas chambers or ‘mercy killings’ like in Aktion T4, it’ll happen at the doctor’s office, quietly, one Autistic baby at a time. Different approaches yes, but still eugenics and the extinction of an entire minority group of people.
Fact: You can’t cure Autistics from being Autistic.
Fact: You can’t recover an Autistic from being Autistic.
Fact: You can groom an Autistic to mask and hide their traits. Somewhat. … however, this comes at the expense of the Autistic child, promotes Autistic Burnout (this should not be confused with typical burnout, Autistic Burnout can kill Autistics), and places the Autistic child at high risk for PTSD and other lifelong trauma-related conditions.
[Note: Autism is NOT a disease, but a neurodevelopmental difference and disability.]
Fact: Vaccines Do Not Cause Autism.
