Shove That Puzzle Piece Symbol Where The Sun Don’t Shine. Thanks. |  Eve Reiland

Sharing this (originally a comment on Facebook) here in regards to puzzle piece reclamation by Autistic folks. :

The reclaimist movement – or apologist movement (not the same) – are both affecting and harming the movement to get this shit out of my kid’s schools, hospitals, zoos, grocery stores and more.

Seriously, it pisses me off that your personal journey is fucking up my community fight to get this away from my autistic kids. You can do anything you wish to personally, but know the affect it’s having on autistic kids right now.

They don’t get a choice to reclaim, they just get is shoved down their throat and I get the response, well not all autistics hate it.

Hell its still shoved down my throat every damn place. I know what it means.

So its harmful in actuality of fighting for a better future for my autistic kids and the next generation. I wish you’d consider the unintended ripple effect. and sorry life worthy of life, never ever going to ‘reclaim’ that back …. and why do you want to?

That’s even more confusing to me. but you do you…

and I’m going to fight with fury to eradicate this shit and get it out of my children’s lives. they don’t have your choice.

Neurodiversity: Some Basic Terms & Definitions | Nick Walker

New paradigms often require a bit of new language. This is certainly the case with the neurodiversity paradigm – even the word neurodiversity itself is still relatively new, having been coined by autistic sociologist Judy Singer in 1998. I see many

Non-complicit: Revisiting Hans Aspergers Career inNazi-era Vienna

Recent allegations that pediatrician Hans Asperger legitimized Nazi policies, including forced sterilization and child eutha
nasia, are refuted with newly translated and chronologically-ordered information that takes into account Hitlers deceptive
‘halt’ to the T4 euthanasia program in 1941.
It is highly unlikely that Asperger was aware of the T4 program when he referred
Herta Schreiber to Am Spiegelgrund or when he mentioned that institution 4 months later on the medical chart of another
(unrelated) girl, Elisabeth Schreiber. Asperger campaigned vigorously from 1938 to 1943 to have his specialization, Cura
tive Education, take priority in the diagnosis and treatment of disabled children over other fields that promoted Nazi racial
hygiene policies. He neither disparaged his patients nor was he sexist. By 1938, he had identified the essentials of Asperger
syndrome and described an unnamed boy whom he later profiled (as Ernst K.) in 1944.
Rather than doing ‘thin’ research,
Asperger made discoveries that were prescient, and some of his activities conformed to definitions of “individual resistance.

My write up on the puzzle piece. I barely touch upon the T4 project during the Shoah (Holocaust). I will do a more in depth one another time.

Katherine Ruth Last Excellent, accurate and succinct. Just one note – rainbow infinity is more and more being used for broader neurodiversity, so including things like ADHD, dyslexia, etc, whereas gold is more and more being used specifically for autism.

Fierce Autie Katherine Ruth Last i will edit to reflect

Katherine Ruth Last It’s only a very, VERY recent development, to be fair, something I’ve noticed in about the last 6 months.

Katherine Ruth Last So I won’t hold it against you!

Meghan Ashburn I use the rainbow infinity because our family is neurodiverse. So that includes us all.

Christina Hoover Hoogestraat Meghan Ashburn same here

Fierce Autie Same Meghan Ashburn. We have a combination of autistics and and shinies

FMeghan Ashburn Fierce Autie same! 🤩🤩🤩

Meghan Ashburn Thank you for this. Angelina just shared it in That Au-some Book Club. The puzzle piece came up in our discussions of NeuroTribes.

Fierce Autie thank you!

Robin Ganstrom Great article, I’d love to share it on my page, but a couple minor corrections for this part

“Judge Rothman Center even goes as far as electric shocks when they see a behavior they do not like. These abusive treatments lead to PTSD. PTSD usually leads to suicide.”

It’s the Judge Rottenberg Center. And it would be much more accurate (and hopeful) to say PTSD sometimes leads to suicide.

Suicide is not the inevitable end of PTSD. I have PTSD.

Fierce Autie Robin Ganstrom thank you. It’s the mixture of languages. Let me correct

Fierce Autie Robin Ganstrom in do too

Robin Ganstrom And I think you mean we don’t want to “reclaim” the puzzle piece… not recreate. Recreating it makes no sense in the context.

Fierce Autie Robin Ganstrom done.

Robin Ganstrom Couple typos in the last paragraph. I hope you don’t mind me pointing these out, I really like the overall article, I’m just trying to help you polish it a bit and make it better.
“It is essential for human deversity. There is no normal or healthy. There is co correct way of living.”
I think you mean “diversity” and “no correct way of living”. ❤️👍

Fierce Autie Robin Ganstrom i don’t mind 🙂

Fierce Autie Robin Ganstrom done. Thank you ❤️

Robin Ganstrom Still need to correct “Judge Rothman Center”. It’s Judge Rotenberg Center.

Fierce Autie Done

Cindy Lewis I just linked it in a reply to a woman trying to explain why the local autism charity isn’t as great as she thinks.

Whether she’ll be open to learning remains to be seen, but I led the proverbial horse to water.

Fierce Autie Cindy Lewis thank you!

Robert Gehrman Âû Well done ! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

ABA/PBS practitioners are repeatedly told to strictly avoid mentioning to parents any hidden or declared aversives, veiled or obvious coercion, “punishers” as their cult-like internal language refers to such force … but ABA/PBS ‘researchers’ are not so craftily disciplined.

Innocent children are exposed to “Punishers” or [euphemism warning] “Significant Response Costs” for autistic ‘crimes’ such as “rumination”, “disobedience”, “failure to acquire a social skill”, “repetition”, “behaviours socially stigmatized by normal people”, and ABA/PBS’s controllers argue for the “need for additional punishment components” to end or “extinguish” any “autistic stereotypies”

“Punishers” in ABA/PBS can be anything from slapping as the founder Lovaas proudly recommended and regularly used, to being forced to drink extremely astringent mouthwash for “ruminating”, denial of food (“nutrition withholding”), being sprayed in the face (“tactile misting”), blind-folding (“face screening”), electro-shocking (“sudden nerve stimulus”), forced exercise (“contingent calorising”), hands held down (“wrist embracement”), or enforced “quiet hands”.

The four main reasons why there are NO ethics in ABA/PBS lie in:
– “if it works, who cares”… same as for torture… it requires an ethics-free zone
– a $2 billion dollar cult-industry depends on no ethics for so many incomes
– “it’s only autistics… empties, blanks, the hollow” 😦
– autistics are still the last to be listened to about autism.
