Advocacy Updates

Hello from the NAMI California Advocacy Team!

Once a month, our team will be sending out this newsletter to keep you informed about all things advocacy.

We hope that this monthly briefing of information will increase transparency about our work in Sacramento, and more effectively support the voices of all Team NAMI members who are doing critical advocacy work around the state.

For suggestions on how we can make this space more useful to YOU, please email us at advocacy@namica.org.

These funds are designed for affiliates supporting family members and individuals with lived experience who are engaged in influencing policy and funding decisions in their communities.

Last year, this funding helped to develop and sustain advocacy programs across the state. See some of last year’s highlights here.

ADVOCACY SPOTLIGHT: NAMI MERCED

During these newsletters, we will highlight some of the wonderful work being accomplished by affiliates across the state.

On August 14th, NAMI Merced hosted an event in support of its Spanish-speaking residents and members. The event focused on mental health wellness, the impact of trauma, and the importance of developing resiliency in the face of the current immigration landscape.

The event was hosted in coordination with Cultiva La Salud, ACLU Northern California, Valley Watch Network, Sierra Vista Child and Family Services, and the Merced County Department of Behavioral Health.

It included a presentation on the Latino Cultural Wealth Model, information on NAMI programs that are available in Spanish, and tools to support families under threat of deportation. All information was provided in Spanish.
