Just wanted to post a quick update and thank you to the Road community for your incredible support and responses during our interactions with Niantic’s social team (details are in the link above for those who did not see my original post).
Niantic Tweeted last night acknowledging the issue, and although their response wasn’t perfect, it is certainly a start and I along with many others in the autistic community plan to continue working with Niantic to ensure that they #SupportAutisticPokemonTrainers in a respectful and appropriate way.
In the meantime, if you feel so inclined, we plan to continue with some kind of action/boycott on the 28th as Niantic has stated that they will not drop support of the Autism $peaks/SAARC walk on that date. Even if you can’t go without opening the app, please feel free to avoid in-app purchases and to continue Tweeting @NianticLabs with the hashtags #SupportAutisticPokemonTrainers, #BoycottAutismSpeaks, and #PokemonNO. We want to send a message that is visible and tangible to them, and money does talk.
I would also encourage you to spend time with your local raid groups this week, be kind to everyone, and if someone in your group happens to have a disability, make the effort to ensure they are included and supported. GO is more than just the actions of Niantic’s social team and I think that if we all take the time to be inclusive, we can outdo this slight through our actions.
