Dignity – DeveReaux’s Newfound Words

You didn’t even know me B

You knew I was zipped up

But did you know why

You knew I was quiet. To a fault

But you didn’t know

I was merely biding my time

Did you?

Because I’ve shown myself to other people

And wound up wounded

I play close to the vest not because I have much to lose

But because I’m trying to protect the little I do The dignity

The self esteem

And the confidence

Whatever’s left I’d like to keep it

I trusted you, but I needed

People rush into relationships

And forget about themselves

So busy trying to please the other person

They forget that the person

Who needs to be happiest

Is themselves
