I am disgusted by the #EndAutismNow campaign. This is hate speech and eugenics. How is this different to the Nazi EndJewsNow (1939-45) & the KKK white supremacist EndBlacksNow campaigns (1860-2018)? Treat symptoms in autistic people that cause suffering, but don't prevent autism
I am disgusted by the #EndAutismNow campaign. This is hate speech and eugenics. How is this different to the Nazi EndJewsNow (1939-45) & the KKK white supremacist EndBlacksNow campaigns (1860-2018)? Treat symptoms in autistic people that cause suffering, but don’t prevent autism
I understand you, but not fuly agree. Blind people have too other skils more developed, but if we can avoid blindness better. Isn’t it? Is blindness a “must been preservated” sensodiversity? No, sorry, no.
Difficult to answer this and stay within the word limit. For me, a “disorder” only has downsides. This is distinct from saying the term “disorder” should be avoided because of its negative connotations and stigma. For many, autism has upsides. Hence, it is not per se a disorder
An autistic brain isn’t somehow a defective, “disordered” neurtotypical brain. It is simply a healthy autistic one. As Simon says, we shouldn’t be “preventing” or “removing” autism. Coping strategies and similar interventions are the optimal approach to helping autistic people
Autism IS the symptoms. No symptoms to satisfy the diagnostic criteria, no autism. You can pretend that having a quirky personality is autism, or high-functioning (maybe) Asperger’s is the same as the children in photos, but that is utter nonsense. TWITTER TERRORISM-IS-U.
Autism is not a bolt on Dianne, it’s not a disease, it’s not something you can take away from a person, it’s the way our brains are wired. If you want to end my autism, you need to kill my brain. I’m happy being autistic & would decline your offer to kill me, Thanks all the same
Quite a deranged outburst. How can you in your right mind compare the desire to cure disability (which by the way, can often cause tremendous suffering) with the Nazi’s desire to destroy European Jewry? I mean seriously, get a grip.
I would give every cell of my body to have somehow prevented my children’s profound neurodevelopmental abnormalities, labeled as “autism.” They are 24/7 dependent, their entire lives. Prevention of pathology not remotely = to eugenics. It’s the core mission of field of medicine.
I’d give every cell of my autistic being to have people like you nowhere near any Autistic person. You’re not worthy of us. You’re not worthy of the gift you have. You cause autistics real pain and seem proud of yourself. That’s sick
Autism is best treated by understanding and accommodation from others. That’s why i think people are on about ending it. Unlike other things that are treated with meds, people need to make effort to help an autistic person’s symptoms
My son was diagnosed with Classic Autism in 2003. He’s nearly 18yrs old. For 15yrs I’ve adapted his environment..putting strategies in place..introducing routine & structure..as well as flexibility..in order for him to cope in life. He is happy & not suffering. Embrace difference
If ALL autism was as life changing as my lad’s,and others like him, I very much doubt that there would be this drum beating for how autism shouldn’t be cured ( if indeed it could be). Would ANYONE choose to be completely dependent 24/7? It’s not all smiley happy Autism….
You deeply offend the parents who saw their healthy children descend into regressive autism & lose their futures following multi-vax. “Neurodiversity” is insulting nonsense & an insult to them. Autism is not who they are. It’s something harmful they acquired. Epidemic disease.
I am legally disabled. A bad fall caused by a student, misdiagnosed. Abnormally fused vertebrates, now crumbling. Degenerative disk disease with one bulging, one blown impinging on left leg nerve. Spinal stenosis. I am NOT my disability. It is a THING/condition that i have.
People are who they, warts and all, that’s why they can give something, because people who have #Autism have a different way of seeing the world, it’s invaluable. Why should we try and take that away from them, unless that’s THEIR choice?
Not shouting, just trying to put emphasis on the fact that it should be their choice and no one else’s. That’s my opinion anyway, everyone has the right to their own opinion, wether we agree with it or not.
I agree. The problem with autism is the lack of understanding, by most people, of what it is and how to deal with it. That and some symptoms are what needs curing. A very high proportion of computer programmers are high functioning autistic. Without them: no modern technology.
This is nothing like racism, with all due respect. That’s a bit of a ridiculous analogy. Living with this disorder can be life ruining, some of us do want a cure. You don’t speak for all of us. You are an expert & I respect you but I disgree.
I can’t believe what I am reading! Especially in this day and age. My son has Global development delay with aspects of Autism and ADHD due to being born at 25 weeks and only weighing 2lb. He is one of the happiest little boys I know hardly ever sad and very clever too.
You are talking like CRAZY CAME FOR A VISIT AND DECIDED TO STAY. You know very well that ending/preventing/curing autism is about a disorder, not the people afflicted by it, unless you’re acting MENTAL on purpose just to convince people you actually do have a disorder. Benefits?
This is an example of where twitter can’t reflect the nuance of what’s going on. Seems to be a (poorly worded) cry for help if anything. Interesting points being made about how the ‘spectrum’ may disadvantage those with most challenges.
So if (theoretically) a man-made chemical turns out to cause what we call a psych disorder, we shouldn’t stop exposing people to it because they will grow into being like that and there are positive things about it too? They can come to like it and even feel special.
My grandmother had metal toxicity, brain inflammation causing dementia, not unlike severe adult autism. She was not DEMENTIA. She suffered from dementia. A naturopath cured her by improving her health enough that she spontaneously detoxed. Dementia cured. PREVENT DEMENTIA!!!
I’m 34/50 on your ASQ system – so just outside. My fiance is a couple of points over 35. I think we are the best but I really do pity people who are very deep into the spectrum and I worry about the likelihood that our children would possess a great deal more genetic determinants
I wonder how it would feel if the shoe was on the other foot? I’ll never be defined by what others think about my right to co-exist in the world, but by their respect and wisdom to understand I need a different environment. Give me that & let’s measure aptitudes & equality!
Without peoples autistic traits the world would not evolve…autists are the pioneers, the innovators, the super brains, to help calm the anxieties & stresses EFT (tapping) has it covered & for children & teens Happy Tapping with Mia & Charlie & Energy EFT For Teenagers (Amazon)!
I have no firsthand experience and I’m just curious. So please please please forgive me for asking – if it’s a condition that doesn’t bring joy into lives of people who suffer from it and their families – why not prevent it? Like depression or anxiety or bipolar or any other?
C’mon .@sbaroncohen PLEASE TREAT yourself so that you no longer CAUSE SUFFERING. If you really want to use your position you need to question your theories and set that right publicly. I think you are as capable of evolving into a better human than any of us. The time is now.
I agree entirely. Life is a wonderful spectrum of possibilities. Like gender or sexuality neurodiversity is simply one of the continuum’s of vibrant human existence. Better to be embraced & understood not eradicated because it doesn’t fit a limiting binary society
How dare you post such a divisive comment! All parents of children with #vaccine induced #autism wish they had not had the shots, so that their children could lead normal lives and not need 24/7 care. I thought you were looking to find a cure (if not the cause). Obviously not.
You’d be out of a job. It’s not hate speech. It’s a campaign to promote a new book. You’ve sold plenty of books, right? Don’t be so dramatic with your hate speech Nazi rhetoric. Autism in it’s worst forms should be prevented.
