Hellish statistics, aren’t they. So much for ‘they’re just trying to get attention’ and ‘we know better than the autistic people’, from various groups who in theory are supposed to be improving quality of life. Not a clue between them, quite often.
By adulthood most of us have at least one of those illnesses due to the relentless trauma caused by Allistic oppression and erasure of Autism in our culture. So it isn’t always a misdiagnosis but more a thing where they’re diagnosing ilness and then not noticing neurodiversity.
It is correct diagnosis, of course, but the drug and other therapies are often less effective than recognizing underlying autism. I had years of useless and harmful treatment before autism diagnosis. The mental illness resolved on recognition.
