The Best Years of Our Lives

I am beat up and defeated and sometimes I wonder why

I hear other people say it is the best time of their lives

Maybe I’m not cut out for this, maybe I was wrong

Why did I move this far just to feel like I don’t belong

The best years of our lives that could have been

But I worked two jobs and went to school again

Kids are growing up and I am not around

I am tired and I feel like I let them down

My wife is sad and her eyes look at me

What happened to the husband I was meant to be

Have I drifted so far, and I see her pain

Am I wasting time, throwing it all down the drain
